Employee Spotlight: Austin Corlett – Finding Purpose in Recovery Support

For Austin Corlett, a Supported Recovery Residence Worker at The Bridge, every day is an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s recovery journey. Since joining the team in May 2024, Austin has dedicated himself to supporting individuals as they transition from treatment to independent living, providing them with the guidance, encouragement, and understanding they need to move forward.

Austin’s work is deeply personal. He knows that recovery isn’t just about overcoming substance use—it’s about rebuilding confidence, creating connections, and learning how to navigate life’s challenges with support rather than isolation.

A Moment That Stood Out

One of the most meaningful moments in Austin’s career so far was being invited to a participant’s one-year sobriety celebration—a milestone that represents commitment, resilience, and hard work.

“They asked me to speak on their behalf,” Austin recalls. “It was a moment that reminded me why I do this work. Seeing how much they had grown and knowing I had played even a small role in that journey was incredibly powerful. But more than that, I realized how much they had impacted me, too. Their trust and determination were inspiring.”

Moments like this fuel his passion for recovery support, reinforcing the importance of compassion, patience, and second chances.

Creating Space for Growth

Austin believes that recovery is a process, not a single event, and that mistakes should be seen as learning opportunities, not failures.

“We don’t judge people when they struggle,” he says. “Mistakes are part of life, and in recovery, they can actually be important moments of self-awareness and growth.”

He is especially proud of the sense of community and accountability that has developed among participants. Whether it’s attending 12-step meetings together, celebrating small victories, or simply offering a space where people feel safe, Austin sees every interaction as a step toward building confidence, resilience, and independence.

Lessons from the Work

Working in recovery support has taught Austin a lot—not just about others, but about himself.

“I’ve learned that the smallest actions can have the biggest impact,” he reflects. “Just showing up, listening, and being present for someone can be life-changing. You don’t always have to have the perfect words or the perfect solution. Sometimes, people just need to know they aren’t alone.”

His work has also reinforced the importance of community involvement in recovery.

“We often think of recovery as an individual effort, but it really takes a whole community—whether that’s family, peer support, employers, or local businesses offering opportunities for people to rebuild.”

A Message from Austin

“If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction or mental health, don’t be afraid to reach out. The Bridge offers the full continuum of care, and with the right support and mindset, recovery is possible—whatever that may look like for each person.”
