Employee Spotlight: Bex – Creating Space for Healing, Growth, and Self-Belonging

At The Bridge, transformation starts with trust—and Bex, a Clinical Counsellor at Ethel House, understands just how powerful that trust can be. For the past five years, Bex has walked alongside participants through some of their most vulnerable and life-changing moments. What started as a practicum placement has grown into a permanent role where she brings compassion, skill, and deep presence to her work every day.

Breakthroughs That Inspire

Bex finds the greatest meaning in witnessing what she calls “aha moments”—those pivotal points when a participant connects with a new idea, emotion, or belief in a way that shifts their whole perspective.

“It might be processing a long-buried emotion or looking at a belief in a new light,” she says. “Sometimes it’s exciting, sometimes it’s uncomfortable, but it always brings them one step closer to self-awareness and belonging.”

Being part of those moments is something Bex doesn’t take for granted. She sees it as a profound privilege to support people as they begin to come back to themselves.

Innovation Through Vulnerability

Bex’s work is grounded in innovation, a core part of The Bridge’s mission. She connects this deeply with vulnerability—citing Brené Brown’s insight that “vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity, and change.”

In Bex’s words:

“At Ethel House, we create a space that says: we see you, and you are safe to be yourself. That’s where real healing begins.”

She believes that true recovery happens when people move out of shame and survival and into connection—with themselves first, and then with others.

A Whole-Person Approach

Bex is committed to bringing both evidence-based practice and relational care to her role. She values the ability to blend psychodynamic and somatic approaches, creating space for participants to explore healing through both mind and body.

“It’s important that we meet people where they are,” she says. “That means showing up with integrity, compassion, and a willingness to grow alongside them.”

This whole-hearted, holistic approach reflects the heart of The Bridge’s mission to transform lives and build community—one safe, meaningful relationship at a time.

To the Community

If there’s one thing Bex hopes people understand, it’s the depth of care and commitment behind her work and the work of the team at Ethel House.

“We’re here to walk with people—not ahead of them or behind them—but beside them, every step of the way.”

💙 Because healing happens when people are seen, supported, and reminded they belong.
