At The Bridge, our mission is to transform lives and build community, and our work wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated individuals who bring that mission to life every day. This month, we’re excited to spotlight Chloe, the Outreach Team Lead, whose passion, dedication, and heart make a lasting impact on the people she serves.
Meeting People Where They Are
For the past 2.5 years, Chloe has been at the frontline of The Bridge’s Outreach Program, ensuring that individuals experiencing homelessness, substance use, or social isolation receive not just resources, but also compassion, dignity, and care.
“The outreach team is at the heart of The Bridge,” she shares. “We are a low-barrier service, meant to interact with people from all walks of life, meeting them where they are—no judgment, just support.”
Her work extends beyond direct service. Outreach is also about building trust, advocating for participants, and collaborating with other teams to provide well-rounded care. Every day presents new challenges, but also new opportunities to create meaningful change.
A Moment That Stood Out
For Chloe, it’s often the small moments that leave the greatest impact. One story that stands out happened last winter:
A participant left his sleeping bag with the team for safekeeping. When he didn’t return for it by the end of the day, they grew concerned. A month later, after weeks without seeing him, Chloe and her team heard a familiar voice outside. It was him—he had been in jail.
“He was so excited to see us and then said, ‘Hey… there’s no way you guys still have my sleeping bag, do you?’”
Of course, they did.
“When we gave it back to him, he hugged us, so emotional that we had kept one of his belongings safe. That moment lit up our whole day.”
To the Outreach team, this work is about more than providing supplies—it’s about providing people with the sense that they matter.
Dispelling Myths About Harm Reduction
One of the biggest misconceptions Chloe wants to challenge is the idea that harm reduction enables drug use.
“That’s not what harm reduction is,” she says. “Harm reduction is about keeping people healthy. It’s about providing clean supplies, connecting people to services, advocating for them every step of the way, and cleaning up the community. It’s not the solution to homelessness or the toxic drug crisis, but it is a solution to keeping people alive and healthy—no matter what choices they make.”
And at the core of it all? Love and care.
“Everyone deserves love, and everyone deserves care. That’s where outreach really makes its mark.”
