☆ An Employee Interview with Susie Green! ☆
(Program Facilitator, Penticton)
Q: CAN YOU SHARE A BIT ABOUT YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND HOW YOU INITIALLY CAME TO WORK AT THE BRIDGE?
A: I graduated with my Bachelors of Social Work with an extended study in Aboriginal Identity from the University of the Fraser Valley and became a registered social worker in 2015! I have worked in a variety of roles such as Child Protection Social Worker, Guardianship Social Worker and Facilitator with CLBC. I moved from the Fraser Valley to Summerland in 2019 and was looking to work in the addiction and mental health sector and heard TBYFSS was an excellent community resource and decided to apply to the Program Facilitator position - here we are almost 4 years later!
Q: DESCRIBE YOUR ROLE AT SUPPORTED RECOVERY?
A: I have been a Program Facilitator at Supported Recovery Penticton since May 2021. In this role I work with men and women ages 19+ to create measurable goals that support their recovery plan. I facilitate psycho educational programming in house and assist with creating positive habits and rituals that assist participants in becoming a better version of themselves.
Q: WHAT ARE SOME CHALLENGES THAT YOU'VE FACED IN THIS ROLE? HOW HAVE YOU OVERCOME THEM?
A: Time management is something I forever will be working on as the program can get quite busy with multiple participants needing support, completing service plan meetings, cooking meals and facilitating groups. Utilizing the staff calendar and my mobile calendar and utilizing reminders and alarms is very helpful - 1:1 meetings with my supervisor is helpful also.
Q: USING THREE WORDS, DESCRIBE THE DYNAMIC OF THE TEAM AT SUPPORTED RECOVERY.
A: Busy, supportive, caring.
Q: WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT THE WORK THAT YOU DO?
A: I love helping others create measurable goals that allow them to grow strong in all aspects of their wellness - mental/physical/emotional.
Q: OUTSIDE OF WORK, WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS?
A: Hiking with my doggy Skye, spending time at Area 27 watching race cars with my husband and going to the beach with my family/friends. I also am a wedding photographer and spend a lot of time editing photos.
