Behind the Scenes with Ashlyn Walsh

When people think about transforming lives, they often picture the frontline moments; counselling sessions, recovery milestones, or family reunifications. But behind every successful program is a team working to ensure those services can thrive.

This month, we're pleased to spotlight Ashlyn Walsh (she/her), The Bridge's Quality Improvement Manager, who has been helping strengthen the organization for nearly five years.

Building the Foundation

For Ashlyn, some of the proudest moments of her career have been helping turn big ideas into reality.

Over the past five years, she's supported the licensing and expansion of several major programs, including the Withdrawal Management Services expansion in 2022, Bridgeway Ethel and Royal Avenue in 2023, and now the licensing of the new Youth Recovery House Phase II.

"It's so rewarding to see these spaces come to life and then hear about the positive experiences and successful outcomes from participants accessing these services."

Ashlyn also led the implementation of The Bridge's UKG Human Resources Information System as the organization continued to grow. Integrating payroll, human resources, and scheduling into one system has improved workflows across the agency and created efficiencies that benefit staff every day.

"I like to joke that UKG is my third child."

More Than Policies and Paperwork

Although much of her work happens behind the scenes, Ashlyn sees a direct connection between quality improvement and The Bridge's mission of transforming lives and building community.

"When we improve procedures and efficiencies, we give staff more time to focus on frontline participant work and less time spent on administrative tasks."

She's also proud to have been part of The Bridge's remarkable growth over the past several years. The addition of programs like Bridgeway Ethel has expanded access to treatment and reduced wait times, allowing more people to receive support when they need it most.

One of the most misunderstood aspects of her role, she says, is Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

"CQI is so much more than case record reviews, document publishing, or preparing for accreditation every four years. It's an ongoing, organization-wide commitment to learning, evaluating, and improving everything we do."

Whether strengthening internal processes, supporting staff, maintaining accreditation, or ensuring services continue to evolve with community needs, quality improvement is woven into every aspect of The Bridge's work.

"I love that through this work I get to support and interact with so many different programs and staff."

Life Beyond the Office

Outside of work, Ashlyn enjoys projects that let her creativity shine. You'll often find her in the backyard working on her next landscaping project, spending time with her twin girls and their many pets or hitting the slopes at Big White during the winter.

Her passion for building strong foundations, whether at home or at work is reflected in everything she does.

We're grateful for Ashlyn's leadership, dedication, and commitment to continuous improvement. While much of her work happens behind the scenes, it helps ensure The Bridge continues to deliver high-quality, compassionate services that transform lives and build community.
