Bridgeway: A Place to Reset, Rebuild, and Move Forward
For many individuals living with substance use challenges, the opportunity to step away from daily pressures and focus fully on recovery can be life changing. The Bridge’s Bridgeway Program provides that opportunity, offering a safe, structured, and supportive environment where individuals can begin to rebuild their lives.
Serving adults aged 19 and over, Bridgeway supports approximately 210 participants each year through a six-week, live-in treatment program delivered at two Kelowna locations: Bridgeway Gray Road and Bridgeway Ethel Street.
A Structured Approach to Recovery
Bridgeway is a participant-centred program designed to support individuals who have identified alcohol or substance use as a concern in their lives. Within a substance-free, residential environment, participants are given the time and space to focus on recovery without outside distractions.
What sets Bridgeway apart is its focus on understanding the underlying factors that contribute to substance use, including trauma, grief, and family dynamics, while equipping participants with the tools needed to build a healthier and more sustainable way of living.
Building Skills for Long-Term Change
Participants in the program engage in a range of therapeutic and skill-building activities designed to support recovery across all areas of life. Using a holistic, biopsychosocial-spiritual model, Bridgeway addresses physical, emotional, social, intellectual, occupational, and spiritual wellbeing.
Supports include group therapy and individual counselling, treatment and transition planning, psychoeducational workshops, therapeutic and wellness activities.
Together, these elements help participants develop practical coping strategies, strengthen self-awareness, and prepare for life beyond treatment.
When Recovery Extends Beyond the Individual
One recent story reflects the deeper impact of the Bridgeway program. A couple entered treatment at the same time, one at the men’s centre and one at the women’s centre, beginning their recovery journeys just days apart.
Because of this timing, they were able to complete treatment together and return home to their children as a family. During their stay, they also participated in a couple’s counselling session, providing additional support as they prepared for life after treatment.
This moment highlights how recovery can extend beyond the individual, strengthening relationships, families, and long-term stability.
Meeting a Critical Community Need
Bridgeway plays a vital role in the region’s continuum of care. The Bridge operates the largest number of substance use treatment beds in the Interior Health region, supporting individuals from communities across the Interior, including Fernie, Williams Lake, and Osoyoos.
The program’s 42-day live-in structure provides an intensive and focused environment where participants can deeply engage in understanding their substance use and begin meaningful, lasting change.
Looking Ahead
As the need for recovery supports continues to grow, Bridgeway is looking toward opportunities to strengthen continuity of care. Future goals include developing after-care or alumni programming for graduates, as well as transition beds both before and after treatment.
These additions would help ensure that individuals not only access treatment but are also supported in maintaining their recovery and successfully transitioning back into their communities.
At its core, Bridgeway reflects The Bridge’s commitment to transforming lives and building community, providing individuals with the tools, support, and space they need to begin again.
