Caregiver Support: Building Brighter Futures for Youth in Care

At The Bridge, we believe that every young person deserves a strong support system—and that starts with the people who care for them. The Caregiver Support Program, which includes the Path Program and Foster Home Support Program, strengthens those support systems by helping both youth in foster care and the caregivers who welcome them into their homes.

Our goal is simple: to help youth thrive and caregivers feel supported, so every young person has the chance to grow in a safe, stable, and caring environment.

Helping Youth Move Forward

Many youth and caregivers come to us during times of transition or challenge. They may be coping with family loss, a major life change, or the breakdown of a previous placement.

We offer hands-on, personalized support to help youth build practical skills, grow their confidence, and set meaningful goals. That might mean learning how to cook, create a budget, or shop for groceries. It also means celebrating major milestones—like graduating high school or earning a driver’s license—and helping them prepare for independence after age 19.

One youth in our program dreamed of becoming a lifeguard. Staff encouraged them, helping to identify their strengths and capabilities that would be suited to this path. The youth was able to complete the necessary training and obtain employment as a lifeguard. But the biggest win? They gained confidence and a sense of purpose—and that’s what our work is really about.

Supporting the Ones Who Care

Foster caregiving is deeply rewarding—but it also comes with emotional challenges. Caregivers give so much of themselves, and the line between personal and professional can feel blurry.

That’s why we’re here. We provide caregivers with tools, encouragement, and a steady source of support—so they never feel like they’re doing it alone. When caregivers feel strong and supported, the youth in their homes benefit too.

Looking Ahead

The Caregiver Support Program is proud to continue partnering with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, caregivers, and most importantly—the youth. Whether it’s helping with a first job, a school goal, or simply being someone they can count on, we’re committed to showing up in the moments that matter most.

How You Can Support Youth in Care
