Employee Spotlight: Helen French

At The Bridge Youth & Family Services, our people are at the heart of everything we do. This month, we are pleased to spotlight Helen French (she/her), our Director of Services, who joined The Bridge just a few months ago and has already found a strong connection between her personal values and the organization's mission.

While Helen has been with The Bridge for less than three months, her enthusiasm for the work, the people, and the impact of the organization is unmistakable.

In fact, when asked about a moment that made her proud of her work, her answer was simple: "Just being hired here!"

Finding Alignment in Purpose

For Helen, one of the things that stands out most about The Bridge is the organization's commitment to creating a healthy, supportive environment for both participants and staff.

She is particularly inspired by the work being done around Truth and Reconciliation and by the recognition that staff wellness and participant outcomes are deeply connected.

"I feel super proud to work somewhere that prioritizes the wellbeing of staff and is able to identify that a healthy staff means better outcomes for participants," Helen shares.

This understanding reflects a broader philosophy that meaningful support begins with healthy relationships, strong teams, and a culture of care.

Transforming Lives Through Connection

As Director of Services, Helen sees The Bridge's mission of “transforming lives and building community” reflected in both the organization's partnerships and the compassion demonstrated by staff every day.

One example she points to is the growing partnership between the Youth Recovery House and Foundry, helping ensure participants and their families have access to continued support after treatment concludes. These collaborations strengthen the continuum of care and help individuals remain connected to the resources they need as they move forward in their recovery journeys.

Helen also sees the mission brought to life through the way staff consistently show up for participants.

"I see it in the way staff show up for participants, and the care and compassion they show for the people they support," she says.

Leading with Compassion

One message Helen hopes the community better understands is the role trauma plays in the lives of many people accessing support services.

"Trauma is at the root of many of the challenges our participants face," she explains. "Trauma is something that happens to people; it is not something they choose."

She believes that communities have the power to create meaningful change through simple acts of care and understanding.

"As a community, we can actually change people's lives just by showing care and compassion rather than judgment and hate."

This perspective aligns closely with The Bridge's commitment to meeting people where they are, recognizing their strengths, and supporting them with dignity and respect.

Looking Forward

Although Helen's time at The Bridge is still in its early stages, she already feels a strong sense of belonging.

She describes being grateful to work in an organization where her values align so closely with those of her colleagues and the people they serve. That alignment fuels her excitement for the future and for the continued growth of programs, partnerships, and services that support individuals and families across our community.

We are grateful to have Helen as part of The Bridge team and look forward to the leadership, compassion, and vision she brings to our organization as we continue transforming lives and building community.
